Pain management and physcial therapy

The team at On Point Acupuncture & Wellness believes that the most effective pain relief comes from a comprehensive, whole-person approach to healing. For our clients with acute or chronic pain--whether in the head, neck, back, shoulders, knees, or other areas--our staff works together not only to treat symptoms of dysfunction, but also to identify and resolve the underlying cause of dysfunction whenever possible. And while the ancient technique of acupuncture is one of the most widely used and effective treatments utilized at our clinic, our experience shows us that combining physical therapy and other healing modalities is the best way to maximize outcomes and promote whole-body healing.

How does physical therapy help with pain management?
A physical therapist examines, evaluates, and treats disorders of the body. These disorders are typically related to the mobility, strength, balance, and the overall ability of a person to participate in typical daily functional activities, both at home and in the workplace. Pain, inflammation, and decreased mobility may occur from acute injuries, such as whiplash and muscle strains, or from chronic injuries, such unresolved back pain and sciatica. But whether acute or chronic, bodily injuries tend to respond positively to physical therapy modalities including therapeutic exercise prescription, manual therapy, and postural re-education.

Are there benefits to receiving acupuncture and physical therapy together?

Yes. Both acupuncture and physical therapy emphasize the use of non-invasive and drug-free healing techniques, and for our clients we've seen faster recovery when both techniques are concurrently. Specifically, the pain-relieving effects of acupuncture increases a person's ability to tolerate therapeutic exercises prescribed by a physical therapist, which are key for restoring mobility, endurance, and strength.
